| | Growing up within blocks of Incubus in their Agoura Hills, CA | |
| | neighbourhood, it's no surprise that Hoobastank share some | |
| | common aspects. Hoobastank also feature pristine hooks, big | |
| | glossy riffs and well placed sonic experimentation - complete | |
| | with effects, drawn out chords and the occasional acoustic | |
| | strum - to create a vibrant soundscape that is rife with | |
| | catchy riffs and addictive melodies. However, produced by Jim | |
| | Wirt (Incubus, Fiona Apple) and mixed by Jay Baumgardner | |
| | (Papa Roach, Alien Ant Farm),Hoobastank utilise a much more | |
| | traditional rock styling. Riff-happy opener 'Crawling in the | |
| | Dark' sets the tone, closely followed by the driving | |
| | anthemics of 'Remember Me', a slap at the cult of high school | |
| | personality - whilst elsewhere there's the hook-driven | |
| | 'Pieces', the pop-lite 'Ready For You' and the edgy 'Hello | |
| | Again'. Get past the strange monicker - listeners tired of | |
| | rock's same-sounding rap will rejoice upon hearing the | |
| | melodic resonance of Hoobastank. | |

| | 'The Critic'. | |
